Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior political figure said the attack left him without words and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
